Take
ideal grape growing climate, good soil and the Monastrell
grape, mix it all together and the result is a superb full
bodied red wine with good tannin, aroma and the depth of a
grand wine. The best part of it all is the price! Treat the
reds of this small area like you would treat a grand wine;
let them breath before drinking or even decant them and you
will be very pleased, guaranteed.
Wine region's location
This is the only Spanish D.O. which is made up solely of a
single municipality, that of Yecla, in the north of the province
of Murcia. The production area is divided into a further sub-zone
, called Campo Arriba, which provides fuller bodied wines
than those in the rest of the area. Just over 90% of the vines
in this area produce red grape and of these 85% are
Monastrell
grapes, which gives character and personality to the reds
of this D.O.
Wine characteristics
Red Wines
Yecla predominantly produces red wines elaborated
from the
Monastrell grape. They have a very dark cherry red
colour. They have aromas of ripe dark fruits and sometimes
can also have aromas of raisins due to the very hot summers
and the altitude of the area. When tasting this wine you will
notice they are meaty yet soft to the pallet.
