Utiel Requena is the perfect area for finding those every day wines to have on our dinner table every evening, when value for money is most important. Having looked through the region, we have selected what we believe are the best of the area and should definitely fit the bill.
Utile Requena is located west of the city of Valencia, in the province of the same name and bordering with La Mancha of Don Quixote. Sitting on a plateau at 800 meters above sea level and surrounded by several mountain ranges, this wine region has a personality of its own. The climate has some continental influence with rather cold winters and temperate summers.
White Wines
Two types of white wines are generally produced in this region.
The traditional whites are produced with Merseguera and are
fresh and quite flowery. On the other hand, the more modern
wines are produced with Macabeo. These tend to be stronger
in taste but still quite fresh and light.
Rose Wines
This variety of wine is produced with 100% Bobal grape.
Salmon pink in colour and with a fresh and fruity aroma with
herbal notes. This gives it a pleasant and fresh taste.
Red Wines
The traditional reds of this D.O. are made of 100%
Bobal grape giving them a very dark colour and quite hard
taste. On the other hand, the younger reds made from Tempranillo
and Grenache are fresh, fruity and quite correct.
