This Tilenus is a wonderful example of the wine produced in the Bierzo region from the Mencia grape (thought, incidentally, to be a relative of Cabernet Franc, rumoured to have been planted here originally by French pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela). This is a perfect, dark, velvety red, a powerful and well-balanced wine, the result of 12 months aging in French oak barrels. An old style wine but made with the latest innovations in wine making technology, Tilenus has classic aromas of mature red fruits with notes of tobacco and spice and good length. Simply excellent!
A superbly made creation of Alvaro Palacios, one of the top wine Masters of the world. This brilliant wine maker has chosen a very interesting blend of grapes here: Carignan, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and a topping of Syrah. The result is this imposing wine, with its edge of minerals and fine oak, and the ripe fresh flavours of black cherries, blackberries and plums. Also hints of cocoa, anise and dried flowers. A smooth and graceful wine with a long, fruity finish. Fantastic!
