No surprises here - this is, as you would expect from one of the best winemakers in the area, very, very good. Pesquera is a man with a reputation for producing top class products from his 200 hectare estate on a south facing slope above the river Duero. After 18 months in oak, the wine shows strong aromas, rich in mature fruits and smoked wood. The taste is full and round with lots of red berries and a very long finish. This Crianza is a superb wine that lives up to Pesquera's cult-like status.
A grand wine from a grand house. This Crianza assembles everything Protos have learnt about wine making in one bottle. The wine is a fabulous deep red in colour with aromas of fruit, leather and cinnamon and a hint of oak. The best way to experience it is with food cooked in a Horno Asador - the traditional roasting oven of Penafiel. Baby lambs, suckling pigs or fowl are seasoned, placed in an earthenware dish with a little water and roasted slowly for several hours. An Aga would probably be a good substitute. Make a meal of it!
