Navaldar Reserva 2001

Bodega D Mateos

A classic Tempranillo Reserva from Rioja that conjures memories of Spain with every glass. After well over a year in French oak followed by a further two years in the bottle, this Reserva becomes a complex wine that unfolds to reveal very fine aromas of ripe red and black fruits, especially plums. Definitely worth a try, and for a Reserva of this quality, fabulous value.

Emilio Moro 2006

Bodegas Emilio Moro

A seriously tasty, strong, full-bodied red created by Emilio Moro himself - so you know it's got to be good for him to put his own name on it. The Moro family has been making wine for more 120 years and like practically all of the wine produced in Ribera del Duero, this one is made entirely from the Tempranillo grape. It has fine spicy aromas of clove and black pepper with a superb balance between oak and red fruits. An elegant wine with a long aftertaste. If it's good enough for Emilio, rest assured, you won't be disappointed!

SantBru CV 2006

Portal de Montsant

This is a fantastic wine with an intense aroma of ripe red berries and light notes of oak. Making this wine is a true labour of love. Grapes are harvested by hand from 70 year old vines. The three varieties used - Carignan, Syrah and Grenache - are aged in separate oak barrels for 14 months and are only then blended to achieve powerful aromas of ripe red berries and fine spicy notes of oak. Very pleasant to the palate, meaty with a balsamic background.

Dominio de Tares Cepas Viejas 2005

Bodegas Dominio de Tares

This is a very interesting wine, rich in spice on the nose and with a pure mature, cherry taste. Look out for traces of cinnamon and clove with a hint of oak. Made entirely from Mencia grapes, selected from vines over 60 years old, this rather special wine comes from Bierzo - often referred to as Spain's most up and coming wine region. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels which gives it its dark cherry colour and violet rim. Aroma with notes of fruit jam and touches of liquorice and blackberries. Meaty palate, very fresh acidity. Hugely enjoyable!

Alzania 21 del 10 2005

Bodegas y Vinedos Alzania

100% Syrah, this is intense, oily and full bodied, yet soft and velvety, with notes of mint and eucalyptus, spices and toffee. It's also benefited from a year's aging in French Allier oak barrels. Crop after crop, Spain is improving the standards of their Syrah wines and this one is possibly amongst the top ten Spanish Syrahs. Incidentally, this wine was named after the birth date of winemaker Jose Manuel Echeverria's daughter. 'Felices cumpleanos' (happy birthday) to her, and also, we hope, many happy returns to this wine, which makes a lovely birthday present in anyone's language.

Dionus 2002

Venta D'Aubert

Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominating grape type of Venta d'Aubert's flagship wine, Dionus. The cuvee is completed with Merlot, Syrah and Garnacha Tinta grapes. Each type is developed separately in predominantly new French oak barrels for two and a half years, before blending and bottling. This is a meaty wine with a well achieved fine fruit acid tannin balance, rich in colour and very long after taste. Although having a good storage potential, this wine is also delightfully drunk in its youth!
