Hermanos Lurton 2005

J & F Lurton

Fresh, sharp and dry with aromas of white fruits, this is a master blend of Viura, the fruitier Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc harvested from very old wines with very low yields. In the mouth, superb freshness and an explosion of white fruits give an impression of sweetness. In the glass a pale, very clear yellow with glints of green. Taste of white fruits (melon in particular). Fat, round, strong and with a very long aftertaste. At its best right now and perfect with desserts such as apple tart or fruit salads.

Mas Comtal Rose 2006 - 2007

Albert Mila Mallofre

A very tasty rose - one of the top numbers from this wine maker. Lots of raspberry and strawberry aromas, strong yet not overpowering, and lots of sweet fruit taste, but dry at the palate. Long aftertaste. Good balance between taste and acidity. Try it as you balance a paella, pasta, risotto or lightly grilled chicken on your knee next to the barbecue. Very, very enjoyable.

Marques de Riscal Rueda 2007

Vinos Blancos de Castilla

We really trust this producer and his wine. The winery is, quite simply, one of the best in Rioja. Riscal were the pioneers in this area and, from the very beginning, they have made some of the best whites in Rueda. This one is sharp, fresh and fruity with a predominant grape taste - exactly what you should expect from a white from Rueda. Superb aftertaste. Go for it!

Basa 2007

Telmo Rodriguez

A great wine from a great wine maker in yet another region rapidly emerging as one of the stars of the Spanish wine industry. This is one of the best wines in Rueda. Basa uses Verdejo - the grape of the moment if you want to produce a grassy and classy young white - with a little touch of Viura and Sauvignon Blanc. It's a stunning combination. Aromas of lavender, mango and maracuya. Strong at the palate, floral, fresh and dry. Just the thing to have sitting at the ready in the fridge.

Marques de Riscal Sauvignon 2006 - 2007

Vinos Blancos de Castilla

Pale yellow in colour with hints of green, this wonderful white from Marques de Riscal has a highly intense, fruity nose, with ripe berries, citrus fruit, pineapple and grapefruit. On the palate it has an underlying mineral presence and a fresh and aromatic sensation in the long, lingering finish. Marques de Riscal introduced the French Sauvignon Blanc used for this wine in 1974 and today the bodega grows 70 hectares of it. Nowadays it's one of the officially permitted varieties of the Denominacion de Origen Rueda, thanks to its ability to produce white wines with great aromatic intensity, good acidity and hints of minerals. It's the perfect match for all kinds of shellfish and pasta dishes and also ideal as an aperitif.
