Campante Red 2005

Bodegas Campante

This smashing little red is just such good value for money! Originating from the Ribeiro region that sits just inland from Rias Brixas around the Mino river, it is full of fresh, fruity, spicy aromas - you might even pick up a herbal edge too. A really tasty wine with good tannins and good acidity. Good looking in the glass too with an intense cherry-red colour. Pretty much impossible not to like.

3 Fincas 2007

Castillo Perelada

To make this wine, Castillo Perelada uses grapes from 3 of its Emporda vineyards, each of them with their own geological conditions: Merlot from Pont de Molins, Garnatxa and Tempranillo from La Garriga and Cabernet Sauvignon from Espolla. This beautiful wine has a high intensity cherry red colour. Its aroma reminds of ripe fruits and after 12 months in French barrels, is slightly roasted, due to its oak ageing. In the mouth it is meaty, fresh and well-balanced. Tannins are fine and ripe. This is a nice, long and enveloping wine.

El Coto Crianza 2005

El Coto

With sweet and elegant tannins this is a classic wine from Rioja. A very well-rounded, ruby red Rioja made from the very best Tempranillo grapes and aged over one year in new oak barrels to give a good balance between fruit and oak. With a good finishing in the bottle it has aromas of mature red fruits. This is a wine with a distinctive silky style that preserves the fresh fruit and liquorice aromas so typical of Tempranillo.

Celler Cal Pla

A very special rose from a very special wine maker. Celler Cal Pla has been making wine since 1774, always under the control of the same family and still operating within the original premises. This small winery makes very good wines, all of them in small productions. Mas d'en Compte 2003 is the result of a very clever blend of Grenache with Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft in taste but powerful in aromas, this is a grand wine for a special moment. Best with red meats, unbeatable with venison.

This wonderful Reserva from Protos has a beautiful dark cherry colour. On the palet it is clean and crisp, round, fat and well structured. On the nose, after 18 months in French and American oak barrels, it is exotic and complex with definite fine smoky and spicy oak notes. A definite must for a game or meat dish.

Remirez de Ganuza Reserva 2002

Fernando Remirez de Ganuza

One of the top wines from Rioja. A marvellous blend of 90% Tempranillo with 10% Graciano makes this the signature wine of this Bodega. Look out for the intense cherry colour with a toasty nose with lots of ripe fruits. This is a wine with a powerful palate - full, meaty and flavoursome - and a very long finish. You also experience chocolate and coffee aromas (wonderful!) with traces of cloves and black pepper. The flavour follows the same notes, accentuating the meatiness of this marvellous wine.
