3 Fincas 2007

Castillo Perelada

To make this wine, Castillo Perelada uses grapes from 3 of its Emporda vineyards, each of them with their own geological conditions: Merlot from Pont de Molins, Garnatxa and Tempranillo from La Garriga and Cabernet Sauvignon from Espolla. This beautiful wine has a high intensity cherry red colour. Its aroma reminds of ripe fruits and after 12 months in French barrels, is slightly roasted, due to its oak ageing. In the mouth it is meaty, fresh and well-balanced. Tannins are fine and ripe. This is a nice, long and enveloping wine.

5 Fincas 2005

Castillo Perelada

Castillo Perelada owns 5 Vineyards in the Emporda, each of them with their own geological conditions. The soil heterogeneity in this region is unique and allows to make wines with an extremely wide range of nuances. Cherry red colour with a garnet edge. Intense and enveloping aroma that reminds of ripe fruit, with spicy and roasted notes. It reaches great volume in the mouth. It is fleshy, well-structured and balsamic. It has a very fresh acidity and silky tannins. This is a well-balanced wine, creamy, nice in the mouth, with a long after-taste.

Abadal 2004

Masies D'Avinyo

Blending the peppery finesse of Cabernet Franc with the depth of Tempranillo makes this a wine full of character, where the expressive tannins of the grape are inescapable.

Wines based on Cabernet Franc are the exception in Spain but well worth seeking out. Here, blending with the fantastic black Tempranillo grape has given rise to dark cherry flavours and wonderful hints of pungent Mediterranean herbs.

Perhaps it is this gentle hint of herbs that makes this well-structured and balanced wine so suited to roasts of all kinds. This is definitely one to enjoy over a lunch you have no intention of hurrying; a good steak, leg of lamb or a hunk of roast beef.

Altolandon 2004

Altolandon

A classic 50:50 blend here, with the boldness of Syrah melding beautifully with the mildness of Merlot. With 12 months in oak to its benefit, this is a very interesting wine, full of aromas of ripe fruits and with a sensational taste, as well as an intense cherry red colour. There are strong fruity aromas of plum, blackcurrant and jam, as well as a hint of coffee, making it the perfect accompaniment to a hearty roast (not to mention the cheese afterwards).

Altun Crianza 2004

Bodegas Luberri

The intense heat of the Mediterranean is the first thing you notice in this classic Rioja. A superb wine that greets you with aromas so intense you may find it hard to get your nose out of the glass. The deep reddish purple of the Tempranillo holds within it a spicy edge of cinnamon, which gives way to a meaty, soft flavour. As relaxing as the dinner you should enjoy it with.

Baron de Ley Reserva 2003

Baron de Ley

This is a classic Rioja Reserva and one of our most popular wines. It's cherry red, meaty yet soft, and full of aromas of red fruits and vanilla, with spice, oak and cedar overtones. A very pleasant and long aftertaste. The winery covers over 100 hectares and is set around an ancient monastery were wine production can be traced back to the 16th Century. Today, it's a cooperative. One for the Sunday roast - or the midweek stew.
