Navaldar Crianza 2003

Bodega D Mateos

After 14 months maturing in French oak and a further 12 months in the bottle, this Navaldar Crianza is a very attractive Rioja that will not let you down. Judged by any criteria, from colour to aromas, this is a classic Tempranillo Crianza. Quite syrupy and with a back note of dry plums, this is a complex wine and yet, very easy to drink. Comes highly recommended - our best value Rioja Crianza with no compromises!

Abadal Picapoll 2004 - 2005

Masies D'Avinyo

A fresh, full-bodied, medium-dry white made entirely from the tiny picapoll, a delightful, oval-shaped grape indigenous to the Pla de Bages region of Catalunya. The wine's delicate, pale yellow colour and aromas of honeyed apricot and maracuya are largely thanks to the use of this eccentric little grape, known for its thick skin.

Thick skinned it may be, but few foodies remain impervious to the delights of this wine which can be enjoyed equally well with cold meats like Parma or Serrano ham or thumping main courses such as paella and risotto. Terrific with fowl or blue fish as well.

Mas Comtal Red 2005

Albert Mila Mallofre

This is a good blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a topping of Merlot and Cabernet Franc for softness. It comes from a very fine estate where the land hasn't been chemically treated since 1992. There are aromas of ripe fruit with a slight edge of oak, with a lovely long finish. It's ideal with pasta, cheese or cold cuts, and a great one to enjoy with grilled meats (so pick up some next time you’re thinking of having a barbecue).

Mas d'en Compte Rose 2005

Celler Cal Pla

A very special rose from a very special wine maker. Celler Cal Pla has been making wine since 1774, always under the control of the same family and still operating within the original premises. This small winery makes very good wines, all of them in small productions. Mas d'en Compte 2003 is the result of a very clever blend of Grenache with Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft in taste but powerful in aromas, this is a grand wine for a special moment. Best with red meats, unbeatable with venison.

Navaldar Reserva 2001

A classic Tempranillo Reserva from Rioja that conjures memories of Spain with every glass. After well over a year in French oak followed by a further two years in the bottle, this Reserva becomes a complex wine that unfolds to reveal very fine aromas of ripe red and black fruits, especially plums. Definitely worth a try, and for a Reserva of this quality, fabulous value.
