Spanish Wine Regions > Rias Baixas

We love the white wines of this area as they are amongst the top whites in Spain. They are light, superb in taste and full of that grape aroma so distinctive of the Albarino grape unique to this area. They are the best match for any kind of fish and or shellfish. Superb chilled as easy drinking whites.

Wine region's location

Rias Baixas can be found in Pontevedra. Part of the province of Galicia, in the north west tip of Spain, the name of the region means Low Rivers. The major asset of this wine region is the Albarino grape which is a tiny grape with a highly concentrated juice that once turned into wine unfolds an astonishing array of aromas. The main reason for this fantastic grape is due to the distinct climate of the region which has moderate temperatures due to the proximity of the sea, high humidity and plenty of rain.

Wine characteristics

White Wines
Their white wine are marked by the personality of the Albarino grape which gives them a colour that ranges from pale yellow to green-yellow. Their aromas are of flowers and fruits, specially ripe apricot and apple or event mint. These are fat wines with a long lasting taste.

Red Wines
Hardly any production. A few examples to be found, they have violet-cherry colour, very bright, with aromas of red fruits and, in some cases, of eucalyptus. High acidity.
