Old player, classic no frills no surprises. Dominated by Grenache grape, the reds and roses are of very good quality. We like their young reds and their crianzas, because they are strong, well rounded and quite reasonable priced. The roses are famous for the extra body given by the Grenache grape which is the base for these wines. We would recommend the reds for casseroles, stews, braised meats, lamb, etc. As for the roses, they go perfect with fish pie, paella, chicken and pork. Generally speaking, good value for your money.
Over the years the fame of the wines from the region of Navarra, located in the north of Spain, has increased tremendously. At first this fame was the sole territory of their Rose wines, however this has slowly changed, with high quality reds and whites reaching the stores.
White Wines
The white wines are not the main area of expertise in this
region, however that does not mean that they are not good
wines. In most cases they tend to be young wines or barrel
fermented Chardonnays. A very high quality Dessert Wine is
also produced in the Navarre area using the Small Grain Muscat
grape as its main component. This dessert wine is produced
in small quantities yet is of a very high standard.
Rose Wines
This D.O. is well known for roses. In Most cases Grenache
grapes are used giving it a strong taste that has a great
palate a strong taste of red fruits.
Red Wines
Well rounded but they vary a lot depending on the area of
production and the type of grape. In the south of this D.O.
wines are made out of 100% Grenache giving the wine a dark
colour and taste of black fruits. In the north they will use
Tempranillo creating a softer more velvet wine that is fresh.
In both cases a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot can
be added sometimes.
