For the most part, Castilla y Leon’s fame falls heavily on its red wine. This V.T. area amalgamates the producers within the provincial area of Castilla y Leon but not belonging to any of the several D.O. which fall within the area, like Ribera del Duero o Rueda. V.T. Castilla y Leon may not sound as important as the very trendy Ribera del Duero or Rueda but, needless to say, their wines are just as good since the soil, climate, grapes, etc. are exactly the same. The reds here are all produced from a grape called Tinto Fino, alias Tinta Fina, alias Tinto del Pais or Tinta del Pais, its all Tempranillo. It’s the grape responsible for the fruity young reds or the complex aged ones. This area is worth a try.
